The cv joint At the back of the shaft seems a little bound up as well. I just put a center support bearing on it an have a new giubo. U joints have a rocking sound and the drive shaft is sitting on my shop bench in a vice so its definitely the u joints making that sound. Car has 135k on it. Transmission mounts were both broken in half.

I've heard U joints shouldn't be used past 3-4 degrees and CV joints less than 12 degrees. Have you ever heard of anyone using CV joint b/t the trans and final drive? I bought in new in 2012. approx 600 miles on it and have replaced all wheel bearings, all ball joints, all u-joints except rear driveshaft and tie rod ends. Not all of each were bad but since it was apart doin on i did them all.Buddy i ride with has an 800 outlander and another guy with a 650 outlander.

Jul 09, 2007 · A local Jeep mechanic tipped me off to Fleetpride. They had the tripple seal Spicer u-joints for $14. Or regular greasable ones for $9. Cost $7 to have them install the u-joints if I brought in the driveshaft. Guy did the u-jonit swap in about 60 sec. Amazing was a cool press will do. Seemed like an easy decision.
Found Rockford driveline and found more info and specs. Checked the new/ used driveshaft and found the joints to fit the Forester were indeed available. I also found that the "U-joint store" had the joints, shipped to my door for $54.00 I installed both u-joints today and so far so good. I did not replace the support bearing or try servicing ...

also the drive shaft is two pieces and if the nut in the center is loose that can also make the same noise check those first you may not have to remove the drive shaft but if you do make sure to mark the shaft so that it installs the same direction and when it is out check the u-joint if it is not free and smooth replace it and balance the shaft
